In order to add larger pistons and cylinders to your VW motor properly, the case must be cut to fit the larger cylinders. We do a radiused cut to prevent adding a stress riser in the bottom of your case. We also clean up the deck to ensure all 4 cylinders are perpendicular to the crank and the same distance from the crank centerline.
Vintage Volks does not recomend or sell 87mm cylinders. The slip in/machine in 88mm cylinders are a good choice, but if you are going to that much trouble, why not go with 90.5mm or thick wall 92mm cylinders. They don't cost that much more and you get a much better engine when you are done.
